News from Southern Maine: Wild First Aid

The excitement this past weekend was taking advanced wilderness first aid. Anyone who has taken this course knows that  this is an opportunity to express your inner actor.  Part of the class pretends to have various injuries while the others attempt to diagnose and treat. Some injuries provide greater latitude for expression than others. I got to be totally unconscious twice. However others were instructed to fake multiple breaks, diarrhea and even an amputation. This last one was the most dramatic  complete with hysterics and fainting. Imagine walking around a corner to find a dozen people running toward you spouting fake fingers and blood.   It was like being in a movie or better yet a tabloid: “Hikers Attacked by Wild Wilderness Zombies”

I remembered to put on my latex gloves that time!

Spring has sprung!
