In addition to ASWM, a number of organizations are working on climate change adaptation - although their focus is not usually wetlands, some overlap occurs. A body of knowledge about climate change adaptation is taking shape and some of it is applicable to wetlands and water resource management. Here are some resources available: National Wildlife Federation: Moving the Conservation Goalposts: A Review of Climate Change Adaptation Literature (July 2011) EcoAdapt offers podcasts and webinars on the Climate Change Action Plan for the Florida Reef System, climate adaptation and river management, climate change adaptation tools, etc. Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE) offers a network of resources, a virtual library and a directory of organizations work on climate change adaptation. Some featured tools include an Adaptation Database and Planning Tool and a tool developed by USGS called Computational Assessments of Scenarios of Change for the Delta Ecosystem. NatureServe Climate Change Vulnerability Index identifies plant and animal species that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Using the Index, users may apply readily available information about a species’ natural history, distribution and landscape circumstances to predict whether it will likely suffer a range contraction, population reductions, or both during the coming years. Use the Index as part of a variety of analyses, including assessing the relative risk of species listed in State Wildlife Action Plans or part of any assessment of the vulnerability of species to climate change. Sea Level Rise Tools such as SLAMM (Sea Level Affecting Marsh Model) are available for mapping and projections, community and city planning, on a number of scales. |
