The state could move toward taking responsibility for dredge-and-fill permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under a bill passed by the Alaska Senate on Monday. SB27, one of several bills related to permitting that have been proposed by Gov. Sean Parnell, passed 15-2. It now goes to the House. Parnell has billed SB27 as a way to limit "federal overreach" in Alaska. For full story, click here. |

But groups that represent those industries don’t seem to support an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency plan to take over the process and speed it up. For full story, click here.

The Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) is seeking applicants for $5 million in funds available for wetland restoration projects, the agency announced. Through a conservation easement sign-up and a request-for-proposal process, BWSR has funds to restore wetlands and their adjacent uplands. Wetland restorations will generate wetland credits, which will be used to offset wetland impacts resulting from qualifying state road improvement and rehabilitation projects. The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has initiated a second application period through April 19 for technical and financial assistance to support habitat for bog turtle and golden winged warbler in New Jersey. “Nearly two thirds of all species listed as threatened or endangered have populations on private lands,” said NRCS State Conservationist Carrie Mosley. “The Working Lands for Wildlife Partnership (WLFW) targets our conservation efforts for specific species in New Jersey by connecting federal assistance with farmers and forest landowners to restore and protect priority habitat areas.” For full story, click here. |

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today issued an administrative order that requires Enbridge to do additional dredging in Michigan’s Kalamazoo River to clean up oil from the company’s July 2010 pipeline spill. EPA’s order requires dredging in sections of the river above Ceresco Dam, upstream of Battle Creek, and in the Morrow Lake Delta. For full new release, click here.
